The Secret to Work-At-Home Success
Good Morning,
I just wanted to take a moment and say that I am very frustrated right now because after several attempts to find a work at home job, data entry job or customer service position I am still just a homemaker looking for that work from home opportunity...the perfect work at home opportunity and also one that fits me to a "t". Well, folks it isn't easy, but because my passion for working from home is still intact I keep going and sending my resumes in. Recently, I had to make a very painful decision to discontinue my online schooling for medical transcription. There were too many factors, such as dependable childcare, no reliable family members that live close by to help and necessary sacrifices for the love of a child. As any parent knows, when it comes to your children no one raises them better than yourself and sometimes this comes at a cost to put your dreams on hold, so that they can achieve theirs.
So when I came across this awesome article about "The Secret to Work-At-Home Success" by Leslie Truex, I didn't feel so bad and feel more empowered to keep on trucking. Success finds people in different ways, situations and evironments and money doesn't hurt either. In my honest opinion, the more money, family support and sheer determination that you possess then the more successful you will become. I fall under the latter, in most all of my initial attempts to work from home I had no family support(my hubby thought I was crazy), just quit my offline job to stay home with my oldest and just wanted to make some money from home. This took place more than 7 years ago, so yes I have learned that there will be ups and downs towards your work at home goal, but how hungry are you? I'm starving, so I keep on going.
How about you?
Warmly,
~Mandu

The 8 Most Common Work-at-Home Scams
By: Sylvie Fortin
Are you a scamaholic? Do you find yourself seduced by those ads in the paper and on the ‘net that promise huge incomes with very little effort on your part? You know what I’m talking about; those ads that entice you with “part-time” jobs with big pay offs, from the “comfort of your own home,” and with little to no work on your part. I’ve even seen ads that say you can make money while sleeping, watching TV, or having sex. Can that even be legal?
If you’ve been sucked into any of these work-at-home scams, don’t worry. There is help. The first step truly is making yourself aware that there are people out there who will scam you for your very last dime. It’s your responsibility to learn how to spot these scammers and stay far, far away from their traps.
To help you avoid these scammers, let’s review some of the most common and successful scams out there today.
- Envelope stuffing. Envelope stuffing is one of the most popular scams. You won’t be stuffing envelopes. What you’ll be asked to do is place the same ad (at your own expense) that you responded to, in order to scam other people.
- Email Processors. Email processing is the e-version of envelope stuffing. Typically, you pay person 1 a fee of between $5-30 and then person 1 sends you your ‘information kit’. This typically tells you how to take the exact same ad you replied to and send it out by email or on newsletters to convince others to send you the same fee you sent Person 1.
- Home Typists (also Order Taker/Application Taker). There are lots of home typist positions that are perfectly legitimate, but these never ask you for a fee and they are also rarely advertised online. Don’t get suckered by ads that promise home typing work that require a fee. They are all variations on the email processing scam
- Craft/Electronic Assembly. There are perfectly legitimate craft/assembly companies that do pay their home-based workers. Unfortunately, they are very hard to find. With most scams, you will be asked to pay anywhere from $10 to $200 for a test “kit.” You will then be sent something to assemble that, no matter how brilliantly done, will never meet their so-called quality standards.
This scam works to make the originating company a great deal of money in two ways. The first way they make money is by selling you the kit and materials. Then, they actually sell your carefully assembled products at discount prices to retailers. Believe me, they are selling your assembled products, but they just aren’t paying you for it. - Lists of companies that hire home-based workers. Many people get scammed into buying lists that promise hundreds of “sure bet” companies that are just waiting to hire you to work from home. The simple reality is that these lists are often just compiled from the telephone book and many of the companies on them, if the companies exist at all, don’t know they’re on such a list. And, the real kicker: Most of these companies don’t even hire home-based workers. There are legitimate lists online, but they are totally free for you to review.
- Reading books for pay. A variation on the job’s list is the “Make Money Reading Books” list. This list names publishers who pay to have individuals review their manuscripts. As with the lists in #5, you can find this information for free on the Web yourself. And, while it is true that some publishing companies pay people to review manuscripts, they will advertise these positions carefully. They are not typically happy about receiving unsolicited resumes.
- $6 Chain Letter. If you’ve ever seen the $6 Chain Letter in your Inbox, you’ve experienced a pyramid scheme up close and personal. For only $6, you can make thousands or so promises the letter. A simple rule of thumb: Avoid all chain letters, especially when money is being requested. This is one letter you’ll want to avoid like the plague because not only is it totally illegal and it doesn’t work!
A real company offering a position — whether it be work at home or in an office — will ask to see your resume, probably want references, maybe want to see samples of your work, and might want to communicate by phone. If they don’t ask for any of these things, be careful! And, if they ask for money, beware! A legitimate company will NEVER ask you for money to work for them!
Remember these tips and you’ll never be a scamaholic again.

Been Out Sick...
Good Morning,
I know it has been a heck of awhile since I posted, but I have been so sick with my seasonal allergies combined with a cold as well. So it seems like I have been sneezing and stuffy for the entire week and a half. Oh this so sucks:(. So I will get right to it and hope that this makes up for all the time this past week. Thankfully I have been able to partner with another mentor, who I really admire that has been working at home since he was in high school! So enjoy these jobs that he has discovered for this past week and a half.
Warmly,
~Mandu

Writing the Perfect Telecommuters Cover Letter
By: Sylvie Fortin
Cover letters are a critical ingredient commonly missing in most telecommuters’ applications. Creating a great telecommuting cover letter is immensely important to your potential for getting the job! It is the very first thing a prospective employer sees when you send in your resume and, without a great cover letter, you may as well not bother applying for any job.
However, you can’t just write any old cover letter like you would for an onsite job. You need to include very pertinent information when you are applying for an offsite job. Beyond the basics of every good cover letter, let’s look at some of the specifics that are involved in writing the perfect telecommuter’s cover letter.
- To Cover or Not to Cover? Always include a cover letter. Even if the posting didn’t ask for a cover letter, it is best practice to always include one. Many employers have been known to use this small thing as a test that weeds out the unprofessional applicants. All professionals automatically know that a cover letter is critically important and worth the extra time invested.
- “To Whom It May Concern” Is a No-No. When addressing the recipient of your telecommuting cover letter never write “To Whom It May Concern.” For the most part, jobs you find online (as opposed to jobs you find in your local newspaper), will include the name of the person you are supposed to send your application to. If this information is not included, it’s time to do some research.
Find out who is in charge of human resources and address it to that person. You will most likely find the name of their HR Manager listed on the company website. When you are inserting a name like this, make sure you address your cover letter to “Dear Mr. Doe or Mr. Doe’s assistant.” This way, you cover your bases if the person reviewing the application is different from the Mr. Doe you located on their website. If you don’t find a name, only then use Dear Recruiter, Dear Hiring Manager, or Dear Sir/Madam. - Where Did You Hear About Us? In the first paragraph of your letter be sure to let your reader know where you heard about the position to which you are applying. Many times a company will be advertising in numerous places for numerous telecommuting jobs; by including this information right up front you will help direct your letter to the right place should there be any confusion.
- Drop Names! As an independent contractor, you will definitely grow your business much faster if your own customers are willing to vouch for you and make recommendations about their business associates that may be hiring. When you have satisfied customers, don’t be afraid to ask them if they can think of any of their business associates that may need your services. If they say “yes,” then make sure you get the name of the person they have in mind and send a cover letter to their associate, mentioning the name of your customer.
- Sell, Sell, Sell… Yourself! Before you begin writing your cover letter, you need to take a few moments to research the company and what it does, think about how you will be able to fit in to their company, and point to specific experience you have that pertain to this particular job description. This is your only chance to make a fabulous impression!
Remember, you aren’t trying to see if you want to work for the company. You have already decided this when you decided to apply for the position. You are trying to prove that the company will find you indispensable! So, make sure you really go above and beyond the norm to impress this employer in this paragraph. - Close in Style. The close of your letter is as important as the opening. It’s important that you close confidently and with style. Be sure to let your reader know what your desired outcome of your application is (e.g., an interview, a meeting, a chance to talk to decision makers). The closing is your chance to leave a positive parting impression, so be sure to thank the reader for his or her time and to sign off graciously.
If you take the fundamentals of quality cover letter writing and add in these telecommuting tips and tricks, you’ll quickly find that your applications are getting noticed and the jobs are rolling in more and more abundantly. Writing the perfect telecommuter cover letter takes practice, but — in time — you’ll master the art and have more business than you ever imagined possible.

Work-At-Home Customer Service Jobs
Good Morning,
I wanted to share this awesome information with you about customer service jobs from home. Leslie Truex rocks when it comes to telling it like it is and just being very genuine, which is why I admire her so much. She not only tells you how to apply for these types of jobs, but who frequently hires home workers. Now keep in mind that just because these employers hire home workers does not mean it will be easy to snag a job from there. Make sure your resume is in tip top shape and your skills are up to par before you send away. Enjoy and Good Luck!
Warmly,
~Mandu
