Tips to Find a Part Time Job

Tips to Find a Part Time Job

When you have to find a part time job, there may be something to consider in order to reap the benefits you want. Here are tips for such an occasion.;

1. Chase after the kind of experience you want. You may not land on the kind of experience you want right away but keep your eyes and your ears opened as that's the way to get into it. Having the experience you want to continue growing into it helps build your credentials and make your curriculum-vitae looks much more interesting to the going-to-be employer. It can be that the kind of experience may be within the same company you are working for part time or you have to find it elsewhere but always keep your mind alert to the opportunities around you. It helps to think out of the box sometimes as the chance may be slim and the best way to go around this case is to have a close look at what you have at hand and try to see the true value of what you have. What qualifications can you get out of the work you are having at hand? Develop those abilities and see if you could make them an added value to your organization. That way you are adding something to your job and create some value to it and make your position (though how tiny) more interesting and worth doing. Find a part time job and grow it into some interesting and valuable experience to yourself.

2. Prepare yourself well ahead of time. There will be interviews to go through and you need a good preparation. Don't just go into it naively. Learn everything you can about the organization you want to find a part time job with. Don't let go any tiny piece of information but build the whole picture of the place into your brain and by that way you will be able to talk naturally about it. Mind mapping could help and it can help to generate and record any new idea you find interesting to talk in the interview. You may want to have a look at Tony Buzan's book on mind mapping. It is available at amazon.com and I think it is really interesting.

3. Study your true potential. It is important that you know yourself right. Study your strong and weak points and try to better them at all times. It is good if you find a part time job that can help strengthen both part of you. Or better than anything else is your mindset to use every opportunities that come along the way to improve that both part in you. Your mindset is the most important thing to achieve this result. Actually I would say it is most important in every case in your life. Whichever path you are taking, your mindset plays a very important part in achieving the kind of success you desire.

I would have to say money paid to you is also important but I think as a newcomer to the field you won't be having much advantage over this and I believe, through times, if you possess high qualities and experiences, money will find the way into your pocket. So pay attention to investing in growing yourself rich with qualities and experiences and you will shine.

The 5 Worst Jobs For the 21st Century

The 5 Worst Jobs For the 21st Century
By Will Stone

Employment in the 21st century is a different animal than it was in the 20th century due to the changes in economics, the way government operates, the way the private sector sees growth and of course the advances in technology.

File Clerks - this position doesn't pay a whole lot and will be slowly eradicated as more and more companies go paperless. Expect a drop of close to 40% in this sector. Granted it is not a high paying position but was once a good job for those with minimal skills.

Radio Announcers - we'll be seeing a reduction due to several different situations. Consolidation of stations and advancements in technology are going to have an effect on the job opportunities there as well as a lack of new stations popping up. Those of you with golden voice boxes will need to look elsewhere.

Federal Employees - a good part of the federal employment will be transferred to the state and local levels over the next five to ten years and many jobs will be outsourced to private enterprises. This will increase the opportunities there of course and also give greater over site to the quality of work.

Travel Agents - with the expansion of online travel websites, huge advertising budgets of companies like Priceline, Expedia and the other large online travel companies, less and less of us are using the local travel agent. In addition to the larger online companies getting even yet larger, any down turn in the economy has a huge affect on travel and travel agents.

Farmers - again, consolidation is taking an industry and improving it in efficiency but causing a loss of jobs. The long hours and rough working conditions are not the most favorable so unless one grows up in a farming community they are not apt to take a position there as well.

Strategies to Edge Out the Competition

Strategies to Edge Out the Competition
By Patricia Erickson

With the jobless rate at an all time high, job seekers will have to come up with aggressive strategies to edge out their competition. That means developing a job search plan that does more than mass distribute resumes across the internet.

There are many options for job seekers who want to get in front of employers, but developing a solid job search plan is a tried and true method that works well for everyone.

What works even better is customizing the job search plan to fit your personality. By that I mean if you're a computer savvy introvert, a personal networking plan probably wouldn't work well for you. A better approach for you would be to work out a strategy that allows you to use e-mail, the internet, and a direct mailing. If you're an extrovert, you might do well with a mix of networking and direct marketing along with hitting up at least fifty of your closest friends to request introductions.

Here's what I mean. Take a look at these five highly effective job search strategies:

1. Develop a multifaceted job search plan that includes reaching out to employers through some or all of the following: job boards, resume distribution, groups -news and user, newspapers, journals, business associations, networking, and direct marketing.

2. Carefully select and research your target industry. Get the names, addresses, titles and other pertinent information together and develop a contact list. Look for hiring managers about two steps above you. If you had a job before, identify your company's competitors. Your library will be a great resource to you for much of the information you aren't able to find online.

3. Tailor your resume to the job, the industry, and especially to the employer's needs. If you're applying for a job as an Administrative Assistant, don't use your resume entitled Office Manager. Also, don't use a "one size fits all" type resume as there is no truly effective general resume. Be sure to create a resume that is rich with keywords that are relevant to the job. Reach even more hiring managers with a web portfolio.

4. Follow up with a telephone call a couple of days after you've sent out resumes and cover letters. Don't be afraid to ask for the interview! Have a thirty second pitch ready before you make your calls.

5. Create a weekly activity log to document how you've done so far. Note the hiring managers you've talked with and the managers you still need to reach. Modify your search as necessary to maximize efforts and effects. Remember, your plan should include challenging expectations and time lines. If you're out of work, plan on spending the vast majority of your week searching for a job. Right now, your search for employment is your full time job.

If you follow through on your job search strategy and remain diligent in your search, you'll be sure to edge out your competition!

Landing a Better Job in This New Economy? It's All About the Good Ol' Basics

Landing a Better Job in This New Economy? It's All About the Good Ol' Basics
By Anne Wilson

Given today's economic instability, employees are uncertain whether getting a new job will require any new techniques, tools or processes. The answer? It's all about the basics.

Establish a Relationship with a Professional Recruiter
Meeting with a professional recruiter as soon as possible is essential. Why wait? You are profoundly more marketable from a recruiter's vantage if you are employed, even at a dead-end job, as compared to a candidate miserably disengaged, discouraged and threadbare from searching the online job boards 24/7.

Next, be patient. Remember, you have a job that is paying you money. Allowing the recruiter-employee relationship to consume your daily activities defeats the whole purpose. Best advice: establish a routine for contacting your recruiter. For example, emailing your recruiter the first Tuesday of each month is a great way to remain fresh in their database with very little effort and time expended.

Clean up your Virtual Image
There are a few nuances that may be occurring within your virtual image which will cause potential roadblocks. Easily remedied, it is important to make these changes soon; before "opportunity knocks".

Email Address: What does your email address say about you? If you are using your nickname from a College Fraternity initiation, you may need to reconsider. In fact, it is recommended that you set up a new email account all together. Use it in your job search correspondence.

Facebook, MySpace, etc: If you have a social network account or personal Web page set up, clean it up. Delete any photos/information that may reflect negatively if a potential employer or recruiter lands on your site. Always assume your next boss is looking on your page.

Messages/Music: When you are unavailable to answer your phone, what message greets the caller? Is it Britney Spears' "Oops, I Did It Again"? If so, it may be time to change and use a more professional greeting. A simple, "Sorry to have missed your call. Please leave a message. I will return your call as soon as possible", is all that is needed.

Resume: This is where you really need to pay attention. Spell check and have someone proofread your resume. Keep it short and resist the urge to tell it all. Remember, your resume is your business card. It directly reflects your ability and commitment to selling yourself. Alternatively, if it is riddled with typos and inconsistencies or runs on and on, your resume will say only one thing: "I am sloppy and careless."

Become Fully "Cloaked" in your Desire to get a Better Job
Join professional networking groups or become a community volunteer. Also, keep in mind that your wardrobe, behavior and activities should be in line with your desire to step ahead in your career. Not to say you need to become robotic and terribly boring, just the opposite. Be yourself. Just don't cause a negative impression. Have fun, enjoy life and be the person setting a positive tone. You are well on your way to an impressive future!

Do You Need A Job?

Do You Need a Job?
By David F Lee

This is a question that a lot of us are asking these days, and I am one of them. What is the answer? The answer is we don't need a job, but we do need a way to produce income, so we can continue to enjoy and lead a reasonable life. The income we make from our job or business comes from other people who buy a product that they need or desire.

I was a financial planner with a major institution and was laid off due to the current economic downturn. It seems odd that when people are most in need of help that they now have less planners to give them that help. I will still be there for my customers, working as an independent adviser with my own business. The rate of pay will take a major downturn until I get things up and going again, but at least now I control my own life. At the same time I am also starting an online business with the current skills I have. This was my Plan B, something we should all have in case we lose our job.

You need to assess the skills you have and get a Plan B in place if you haven't already. There are so many opportunities today with web based businesses that anyone can start, with very little cost. An online business produces income 24 hours per day 7 days a week. The problem is there is so much information on the web and so many people selling ideas for online businesses, which information do you believe. What if there was one place where you could get a group of experts together that are actually doing what they say and making millions online. What would that be worth?

If you start looking at the price to start a business there are a few of the less expensive franchise businesses around that cost you $20,000 to start. This is for a business where you will be putting in long hours and lots of work for a few years until it starts making you money. You could spend up to $500,000 for some of the more expensive franchises and still put in long hours and years to start to make a profit. You can start an online business for a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the time. There is no free lunch, it still takes effort and work and knowledge.

If you want to start on your Plan B and you don't know where to start, we have a number of links on our website that can help you sort out how to get started.

David Lee is Financial Management Advisor, FMA, and has over ten years of experience as an independent advisor and working with major financial institutions. His goal is help people achieve financial freedom and enjoy the freedom to do what you want , when you want that wealth can provide.

Pink Slip-Proof Your Job

Pink Slip-Proof Your Job
By Laurie-Ann Murabito

We are living in a tough working market, where unemployment rates are creeping up to all time highs. Many people have found their positions cut, companies once strong in the market are now closing their doors; others are beginning to get nervous and their fear levels are rising. People are finding themselves in unfamiliar territory, trying to reinvent themselves in a down job market.

So, how do you separate yourself from the pack? What can you do to increase your personal value? What do you have control over? When the budgets get cut, you don't want to be the one eliminated. Here are three simple strategies to protect your job, improve your professional reputation and prove that you are a valuable team member that is irreplaceable.

Increase your Value: "That's not my job," eliminate this comment from your vocabulary. With all the downsizing and budget cuts, everything just became your job. Take the initiative to learn everything you can at the position you are in, which includes your boss's duties as well. You want to become indispensable. You want to become the go to person when someone has a work related question or a problem; become the specialist.

Recreate your position, adapt the job description to the current market. Analyze the current processes in your office, are there things that can be streamlined or eliminated all together. Develop a plan and present it to your managers. This will show initiative and that you are concerned with the bottom line.

Make it a point to be sure your employer is getting good value with you. Eliminate as much overtime as possible. Show that you can work hard and get your tasks done within the eight hour day. Help out where needed, answer phones, take orders, help others and work on new projects. What other services can you provide?

Increase your Visibility: Don't bury your head in your work, it isn't enough these days. You need to be seen as well as heard. Make yourself know, not just by those that are in your direct working area; those higher up need to know who you are and the contributions that you make. Do not be shy about your accomplishments and skills; be your own PR firm.

Showing up early for work, meetings and appointments shows punctuality as well as dedication, but make sure that your thoughts, opinions and great ideas are heard. When attending an industry event be sure to network and share ideas. Upon returning to the office summarize the event for your department and managers with what you learned and how it can be used in your office.

Remember, you are a company's ambassador when attending conferences or any function outside the office. Refrain from gossiping and speaking badly about the company or fellow workers.

Increase your Ease: What are you like to be around? Moods are very contagious and positive optimistic people are more pleasant to be with. Understand this isn't just about smiling and being happy; be the leader in your group. Mentor and encourage those you work with. Be willing to share what you know with others, along with sharing the praise and accomplishments.

Be flexible and dependable. This means doing what is in the best interest of the company. Are you needed to work various hours or in other departments? Volunteer for various projects that others hesitate on and finish projects and reports in a timely manner.

Being successful at your job today, is not enough in today's market. You have much more to consider and improve on than just your actual work. You need to work on yourself each and every day. Demonstrate your value constantly, use every opportunity to get visible and seen by the people who make decisions about cuts and be easy to work with. These steps will improve your reputation and hopefully prevent you from holding your own pink slip.
