No Wonder You Are Having Trouble Finding a Job...
No Wonder You Are Having a Hard Time Finding a Job, Your Attitude Stinks!
By Annena Aikins
Recently, I was refining the resume of a client who was having a hard time finding a job. During our phone interview to go over questions that I had about work history and experience, I immediately felt turned off by his attitude. He was flippant and disconnected from what we were doing. For example, I asked him to double check a date for one of his past jobs, and he said that he could not remember. He did not put forth any effort try to find out or to verify the information. I remember thinking that I could understand why he was having a hard time getting a job, because his attitude stunk and his energy was negative. Here I am spending my time trying to help him by fixing his poorly drafted resume and he acted as if he did not care.
You will be amazed at how your attitude can show up on your resume and in an interview. If you are negative, you will probably be careless and rush while drafting your resume. Your attitude may reveal itself in the form of having a negative tone, through typos, errors, plain and boring statements, and poor formatting. It also shows when you are interviewing or speaking to recruiters over the phone. The person that interviews you may detect that something is wrong, and he or she will likely want to move on to the next candidate.
When I was in college, I worked as a phone customer service agent in an upscale hotel. We were trained to always smile before answering the phone, that way if you were mad, down, or frustrated the customers or guests would not detect a negative tone in your voice. When you smile it affects your tone and how you come across over the phone (whether you are happy or not).
In a recent article, Fred Coon, chairman and CEO of Stewart, Cooper, and Cone, an executive search firm, said "One of the worst killers of a good job search is attitude. People can sense "attitude" and nobody who interviews you will tell you what they sense from you." It is up to you to be positive and leave that impression." (Garone, 2009, The Wall Street Journal).
I know that it is difficult to stay motivated when the bills are piling up and you just can't get a break. Your situation will not change until you do something about it. You will not find a job unless you go out there and convince an employer that you are the right person for the job. What are your chances of doing that when you have a sloppy resume, you show up late for interviews, and you have a poor attitude when speaking to the hiring manager? Job searching is a full-time job that requires your best efforts in marketing yourself to prospective employers.
Employers are like consumers, who are looking for quality products, goods, and services for their companies. In a hiring situation, you are the goods, so you need to show them how good you are and make the best impression. You can do this by having well written self-marketing materials - cover letter, resume or biography. Also, do your best to sound enthusiastic over the phone and in person.
Remember, hiring managers want to feel good about the person they select for a position. You will increase your chances of making a good impression which can lead to landing a job, if you have the right attitude.

How To Screw Up a Job Interview
How to Screw Up a Job Interview
By Kimberley Dart
In the past couple of years there has been such a shortage of skilled employees it was nearly impossible to not get a job offer. Many employers were hiring nearly everyone that came through the doors. We all heard the tales of woe in the media that by 2011 the first of the Baby Boomers would start to retire and there aren't enough people to replace them. Companies were going to great lengths to attract employees.
Fast forward a year to 2010. We are in a very different economic situation. Many countries are facing recession, we are seeing lay offs and plant closures, and many Baby Boomers are now delaying retirement. Engineers who last year could practically write their own paycheques are suddenly out of work.
What does all this mean for you, the job seeker?
It means that once again, you have to learn to differentiate yourself in a job interview.
Recruiters and hiring managers once again have the luxury of being selective when hiring.
Instead of telling you what to do in a job interview, I'm going to tell you surefire ways of screwing it up. DO NOT DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING (you've now been warned):
1. Show up late, or not at all.
Recruiters have nothing better to do with their time than to wait for you.
2. Don't do any research on the company.
Why bother? You'll learn everything you need to know about them on the job. Why waste your time now when you might not get the job anyway? Who really cares if you don't know what they do?
3. Don't come prepared.
When asked by the interviewer 3 things that you contributed at your last position, just answer: "I don't know". Really, they love sitting in a small room with you for an hour trying to pull answers from you. Besides, it doesn't really matter what you did in the past, it's the future that counts, right?
4. Don't dress appropriately for the position.
Nothing screams "Senior Executive Assistant to the President" like a tight, low cut t-shirt paired with flip flops from your last beach vacation. What does it matter how you dress - you still do the same job? Wouldn't you rather be comfortable while working? And there's nothing wrong with a few extra squirts of cologne before the interview. Most interview rooms have poor ventilation so the lingering odour really adds a lasting impression to the room. Each time the recruiter enters the room she'll be sure to think of you!
5. Finally, be sure to trash your last boss.
Everyone loves a bit of gossip, especially a recruiter who's stuck indoors all day sorting resumes. Tell them all about your boss' 3 hour liquid lunches and how he would tell dirty jokes in the hall. Recruiters would much rather hear about that than about your professional accomplishments anyway.
Of course there are many, many ways to perform poorly in a job interview. I've only highlighted a few. Do any of them seem familiar to you? My next article will focus on what you should do when in a job interview.

Advantages of Working for a Temp Agency
Advantages of Working For a Temp Agency
By Amy Nutt
Job hunting is hard work, so anything that makes it just a little easier is a very good thing. Temp agencies can be the ideal way to make everything easier as you set about looking for more work. The advantages are numerous, but too many people avoid temp agencies because they aren't really sure of how to use them or they think they don't need help looking for work.
So, why would you join a temp agency if you can seek out jobs on your own? Let's take a look at the many advantages of working for one of these agencies.
Wider audience. While you can certainly find your own job opportunities on job boards like Monster, or in the local papers, the number of potential positions you can try for is limited. You're just one person, so it's literally impossible for you to check out all the possibilities. Also, many companies never advertise their vacancies, they develop contacts at temp agencies and whenever they are in need of short-term help, they simply let the agency know. This means that if you are working with the temp agency, you are instantly expanding your potential job search to companies that never would have advertised in the papers anyway.
Faster results. As mentioned above, you are just one person, so it stands to reason that you'll be able to get faster results if there are ten times as many people seeking out jobs for you. While a temp agency isn't going to be looking just for you, if you have a top notch resume and are ready to go, you should be pretty high on the list. Also, agencies work hard to cultivate a trustworthy reputation so clients know they can trust them to send over the best persons for the job, which will boost the chances of the agency getting more jobs coming in. The best temp agencies will be constantly receiving calls for new employees, which means you could land a job very quickly if you have the right qualifications.
Support. If you choose your temp agency with care, you'll find that if something goes wrong with a job, you'll have backup with the people who work the agency. This can be very useful since it often gives you more of a legal leg to stand on should something happen with the job you were assigned. Not all agencies offer their support, though, so do be careful to check this before you sign up with one. Find out what they require from employees and what their policy is if you have complaints about a position. You will probably want to know what they do if the opposite is true, as well, if the company complains about you.
Flexibility. One of the biggest advantages of working for a temp agency is that you aren't going to be in any job for long. In fact, part of your job description is moving from one workplace to another in rapid succession! For those who find themselves feeling claustrophobic in one job after a few months or a year, this can be the perfect solution. You won't ever be bored for long in any one job.
Temp agencies can really help you out with finding work. Despite the fact most jobs are temporary, on occasion you may be offered the position permanently, so this isn't a bad way to go, even if you plan on building a proper career in one location later on. You might find your future career right under your nose. You'll never know unless you check it out.
Temp agency providing Hr consulting and recruiting services to assist organizations with their efforts to improve performance, productivity, and profitability.

Category: Customer Service; Sales or Marketing Job Title: Telemarketers / Buyers Wanted Date Added: 2009/02/21 Job Description: We are currently seeking telemarketers. Compensation is on a pay for performance basis, and will provide a lucrative income for those who apply themselves. Looking for entrepreneurial types who seeks quality opportunities.
The telemarketer will contact US businesses and either offer to purchase their excess inventory, or locate buyers for that inventory. We will decide the best fit for you.
Because of the current financial crisis, many companies are carrying excess inventories they wish to liquidate and receive cash for.
If businesses have excess inventory, rest assured that they will want to speak with you, since you are offering them cash to help them get rid of their problem.
And, if you are contacting businesses as a buyer, they are also eager to speak with you as you are offering them merchandise as prices much lower than usual. That means increased profits for them when resell.
Because of that, this opening is easier than other telemarketing offerings - you are helping businesses increase their efficiency.
The telemarketer will earn lucrative lump sum commissions as inventories are located, liquidated, and resold. The commissions can run into the thousands of dollars per inventory.
Contact: Please contact me for further details, and mention any relevant marketing/sales/telemarketing experience you may have. You must be able to speak English well, with little or no accent preferred.

Career Advice - How to Market Yourself For a Job
Career Advice - How to Market Yourself For a Job
By Ramon Greenwood
If you are looking for a job, think of yourself as a product to be sold...for example, a box of cereal or a new service from a bank. Think of employers as buyers. You need a marketing plan to make the sale.
Such a plan contains three elements: (1) what you have to sell; (2) where to sell it; and (3) how to communicate the selling message to prospective buyers.
Five Steps To Marketing Yourself
Your personal marketing plan for career success should include six basic steps.
First, define what assets your "product" has to offer which are better to solve the needs of the buyer than the field of competitors.
It may be difficult to find many real points by which to differentiate your product. This simply underscores the necessity to execute an effective marketing plan in order to foster at least the perception of differences.
Second, create a list of prospective buyers where your "product" makes the best fit.
Third, screen and prioritize the list of prospective buyers according to how they match with what you have to sell and your goals. That list should take into account where you would most like to live, based on lifestyle, proximity to home and other factors.
Fourth, learn as much as possible about each of the prospective employers who come out of the screen... their history, recent developments, sales and profit volumes and recent major changes in management. This can be done by consulting such resources as annual reports, "Standard and Poor's," back issues of the Wall Street Journal, Fortune magazine and recent books which can usually be located through a nearby library.
Fifth, based on your research, carefully craft various versions of your resumes to make your "product attributes" (i.e., reasons to buy) as applicable and attractive as possible to each prospect. The selling points should include education, training and previous experience, special interests and how they relate to the prospect's business.
Sixth, cover each resume with a letter that demonstrates a special interest in and knowledge of each targeted company. The letters should be as specific as possible, making such points as: "I know that XYZ, with sales last year of over $1 billion, is the fastest growing company in the widget industry as a result of its pioneering the development of the super widget. I am especially interested in your company because it is one of the keys to our nation's battle against water pollution.
"Much of my education and experience points me toward building an engineering career in widgets. I can think of no better place to make that career than at XYZ. I believe I could make a real contribution to your company if I am fortunate enough to get an opportunity with you."
Most employers find it difficult to resist taking at least a second look at an applicant who has shown enough interest to do some homework. It guarantees a leg-up over the competition.
Sure, getting a job requires a lot of hard work, patience and common sense. Nobody said achieving career goals would be easy, but the candidate armed with a well-thought-out marketing plan, executed with focused energy and persistence, has a head start on the career path to success.
